Almond milk is a remarkable dairy-free substitute. It is not only an alternative of milk but can also be added to recipes that require milk. Since it is dairy-free, it is also a fantastic vegan substitute. One serving of cow’s milk has eight grams of proteins while soy has seven grams. Almond milk has only one gram of the essential protein. Fat Content - Almond milk is filled with both mono and polyunsaturated fats. This means that almond milk is beneficial in reducing the risk of heart diseases. The omega-fatty acids present in almond oil can be helpful in reducing the bad cholesterol in the blood. In addition, almond milk has no transfats or saturated fats and cholesterol.
Vitamin and Mineral Content - Almond milk supplies the body with high levels of vitamin E, manganese and selenium. Manganese has a vital role in the activation of enzymes in the body. Together with phosphorus, manganese contributes to keeping the bones and teeth healthy. On the other hand, vitamin E which is an anti-oxidant protects the cell membranes by destroying the free radicals that will harm them.
Conversely, selenium is good for immune system functioning, thyroid gland metabolism and reproduction. The magnesium present in almond helps in breaking down the food consumed and converted into energy. Furthermore, it assists the functioning of the parathyroid glands. These are responsible for hormone production to ensure good health of bones. Moreover, potassium present can help to maintain normal blood pressure. But almond milk does not have B vitamins.
