Valerian: This is one of the best treatments for insomnia. For many years, it has been used as a natural remedy for sleep. It is non-addictive. It will not result to morning grogginess. In a lot of countries such as Italy, Germany, Switzerland, France and Belgium, it has become an over-the-counter remedy for insomnia.
Melatonin: This is another natural treatment for sleep. It is helpful in letting people fall asleep if their sleeping cycles have been disturbed. Examples of these people are those working in shifts or with jet lag. It is a type of hormone which is naturally found in the body. As a natural sleep aid, it must be taken thirty minutes before going to bed. Nursing and pregnant women should not use melatonin as well as those who suffer from autoimmune diseases, depression and schizophrenia.
Ayurvedic Remedies: According to Ayurveda, the natural remedies which can help sleep include the following herbs. They should be taken with milk or water three times in a day.
Bacopa Monnieri 500 mg – 1 gram
Acorus Calamus 500 mg – 1 gram
Vitamin B: Vitamin B complex is another natural remedy to help you sleep. Vitamin B complex is a group of essential eight vitamins which are important for different metabolic processes. Deficiency of Vitamin B complex can result to sleep problems. Hence, the use of Vitamin B complex supplements can be helpful in getting sleep.
Tryptophan: This is one of the best remedies for insomnia. It is present in almonds, soy proteins, milk and turkey. These food products can be consumed as bedtime snacks. Vitamin B-6 can help in converting tryptophan into serotonin. This is a neurotransmitter which induces sleep.
Magnesium and Calcium: Calcium is known to be a natural tranquilizer. Deficiencies in calcium and magnesium can result to headaches, muscle spasms, irritability, cramps, insomnia and anxiety. Deficiency in magnesium can also lead to constipation and heart palpitations.

You can do this before going to bed in order to promote sleep. You can even perform the corpse pose on your bed in order to help you fall asleep.
